Muhammad Wafid Agung Novianto was appointed as Commissioner in April 2019.

He received Geological Engineering degree from Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” University of Yogyakarta in 1992, Master of Science degree from Graduate School of Science, Department of Earth and Planetary Science, Nagoya University in 2001 and Doctor of Science from Graduate School of Science, Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Kyoto University in 2004.

He previously held various key positions at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) and currently he is the Acting Head of Geology Agency, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. He also sits at the Advisory Board of Indonesian Geology Engineering Community (Masyarakat Geologi Teknik Indonesia, MGTI), member of Indonesian Association of Geologists (Ikatan Ahli Geologi Indonesia, IAGI) and active member of International Association of Engineering Geology and Environment (IAEG) the Indonesia Working Group.
